Auction House Sales Analysis · working title

What the big auction houses tell us each week

Every week we go through the closing results from Goldin, Alt, and Fanatics Collect and cross-reference the biggest sports card sales against Card Ladder's index data — so you know what's actually moving before you buy or sell. New recap every Friday and Monday morning, plus a special edition after the monthly Elite auctions.

Michael Jordan Ran the Board This Week — And a $695K World Cup Duo Stole the Spotlight

Alt's and Goldin's weekly auctions both closed Thursday night, Aug 20. We filtered both platforms to sports only (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, hockey, combat sports, racing, golf, and tennis — no Pokémon or TCG) and sorted by final price, then cross-checked the standout names against Card Ladder's Player Index data. Here's what moved.

The GOATs ran the board

1

2014 Panini Prizm FIFA World Cup Matchups Gold Power Prizm #19 Cristiano Ronaldo/Lionel Messi Dual Card /5, BGS MINT 9

Goldin Weekly Auction (Aug 11–20) · Lot #1000

The week's single biggest sale by a wide margin — a 5-copy dual card pairing soccer's two biggest icons. Soccer isn't covered by Card Ladder's Player Index the way basketball and football are, so we're citing this one on rarity alone: only 5 copies exist.

$695,400 final price
2

Alt Weekly Auction · Weekly Auction – Aug 20

Jordan's Card Ladder Index sits at a current value of 50,272, up 36.08% over the last 3 months across 1,843 tracked cards — still the single hottest name in the hobby.

$400,054 final price
3

1986 Fleer Michael Jordan #57, PSA 10

Alt Weekly Auction · Weekly Auction – Aug 20

A second seven-figure-adjacent Jordan sale in the same week — the iconic Fleer rookie, graded PSA 10.

$384,000 final price
4

2003 SP Authentic Rookie Authentics Autograph LeBron James #148 /500, BGS 10 Auto 10

Alt Weekly Auction · Weekly Auction – Aug 20

LeBron's Card Ladder Index sits at 56,175, up 41.63% over the last 3 months across 1,093 tracked cards — the strongest 3-month growth of any name on this week's board.

$174,462 final price
5

2018 Topps Heritage Real One Autographs Red Ink #ROA-SO Shohei Ohtani Signed Rookie Card /69, BGS NM-MT+ 8.5, Beckett 10

Goldin Weekly Auction (Aug 11–20) · Lot #1001

Ohtani's Card Ladder Index sits at 43,263, up 20.07% over 3 months across just 92 tracked cards — a much smaller market than the basketball legends above, but this on-card autograph rookie found a serious buyer.

$115,900 final price

$76,620 final price
2

2024 Bowman Draft Sapphire Edition Padparadscha #BDC-8 Jac Caglianone Rookie Card /1, PSA NM-MT 8

Goldin Weekly Auction (Aug 11–20) · Lot #1018

3

2025 Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition F1 Helmet Collection Purple #HC-1 Kimi Antonelli Rookie Card /10, PSA GEM MT 10 — Pop 4

Goldin Weekly Auction (Aug 11–20) · Lot #1017

Formula 1 rookie cards keep finding buyers as the category grows on both platforms — Pop 4 at this grade makes it one of the finest known copies.

$21,932 final price

GOAT Mania Takes Over Weekly Auction #239 — And the Next Generation Is Already Cashing In

Fanatics Collect's Weekly Auction #239 closed Sunday night, Aug 16. Pokémon and TCG lots technically dominated the top of the price sheet (as usual), but we're sticking to sports — so we sorted through the closed results for football, basketball, and baseball, and cross-checked the standout names against Card Ladder's tracked market cap data.
